Crystal Palace snatched all three points in a key battle with relegation rivals Leicester City at home on Saturday. The side which had been winless in 2023 under Patrick Vieira showcased a dominant display in Roy Hodgson's first game back in charge. The Eagles made 20 shots in the first half, the most by any side in one half for the past 7 years. However, their inability to convert those chances looked like it might cost them as early on in the second half Ricardo Pereira put the Foxes ahead.
The Eagles fought back with an immediate equaliser from Eberichi Eze's free-kick which went in off an unlucky Daniel Iversen's back. The London club then won in dramatic fashion as Mateta scored the winner in the fourth minute of added time. Saturday's win took the club five points clear of the drop zone in 12th.
Roy Hodgson had an instant impact on the day and will be confident of avoiding a full-blown relegation struggle given that five of their remaining ten fixtures are against sides in the bottom six.
