what a club to be part of. PBC: Panipat Boys Club
Neeraj Chopra gave a befitting reply to everyone who doubted him!🥇
Bale bale
Panipat was known for its three historic wars (1526, 1556 and 1761), handloom and powerloom industry, thermal power plant and later an oil refinery but now it will be forever known as Golden Boy Neeraj Chopra's home town and it's my home town too.
You can accuse me of being parochial for limiting Neeraj Chopra just to Panipat but I know how difficult is to be a sportsperson in Panipat. Only a Panipat boy can understand how difficult it must have been for Neeraj to make everyone believe that there was nothing wrong in following a dream where agriculture or handloom or any other business did not figure at all.
It's not about pressure from parents but the environment is such if one has not gotten into handloom business or farming or landed a decent government job, the boy is considered gone for good. So once Neeraj decided to lose weight and start throwing jevelin in Panipat, there must be many around him who must have told his parents that, "Ladke ko kuch kamana bhi sikhao." (Make the boy learn to earn too).
If not in these words then their eyes must have said so and at 18, Neeraj joined army as a Junior Commissioned Officer in 2016 by then he was already a world champion. He had told The Times of India that he was greatful to the army for the job as he was desperate to get one to sustain his training. Even after becoming a world champion, the search for job never ends for a Panipat boy!
I bow to Neeraj Chopra as a fellow Panipat boy who dared to dream different and now the world is at his feet...err...bowing a
to his spearhead!
