China has been reporting locally transmitted Covid-19 cases almost every day for last two weeks. A few have been reported even in Beijing, the venue of Winter Olympics, which will take place in less than 100 days.
According to reports in Chinese media, Beijing has reported over 20 cases during the latest outbreak in various districts of the city. (https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202110/1237478.shtml?id=11)
A dedicated quarantine facility is almost ready for arrivals from overseas. China has vowed to continue its zero-tolerance approach towards the virus as it has done ever since the outbreak last year. Among the measures to reduce the risk of transmission is using robots to distribute meals and disinfect the places where athletes stay. Affected districts of Beijing have been put on lockdown. Olympics organizers have been emphasizing that they are fully prepared.
Huang Chun, deputy director-general of the Pandemic Prevention and Control Office of the Beijing Organizing Committee, has said, "We don't want it, but we are fully prepared." The organizers have set four goals: A) No massive gathering of overseas participants at Beijing 2022. They will arrive in different locations and not in Beijing. Those who are not fully vaccinated will be in quarantine before they are allowed to mingle. B) Spread of pandemic will be contained and there will be no interruption to the Games. C) Nobody, including athletes, officials, will be allowed to break the "closed loop." D)organizers will also ensure that no mass public health incidents will occur in the venues, which could threaten the "loop".

As Beijing would become the first city ever to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics, it is seen as a major achievement.
It also coincides with President Xi Jinping starting his third term as President. The organizers want to make this event memorable and show the world that it can organize better than its arch rival Japan, which recently hosted the Summer Olympics.
