People breathe a sigh of relief as India's recent surge in COVID-19 cases seems to have come down, with cases in the last seven days decreasing by 27% compared to the previous week.
Since sometime the cases were increasing incessantly but the past week has shown a slight decrease.
This marks the first decline in the seven-day case count in 13 weeks since the beginning of February.
Other indicators, such as fatalities, active cases, and the positivity rate, also registered a drop.
All major states, except for a few in the east and northeast, reported a drop in fresh cases last week, including Delhi, where the weekly case count almost halved.
Although infections continued to rise in some states, including Odisha, Bengal, and Jharkhand, the current surge appears to be on the retreat as cases steadily drop across most states.
Active cases had dipped below 50,000, and the seven-day test positivity rate too had fallen.
