That last confession!😂
Reality shows are furthest from reality
Confession number one: I’ve been watching Love Island this summer. It’s less that I want to and more that it’s such a cultural thing in the UK that I felt like watching it was mandatory. So every night my flatmates and I sit down in front of our TV and our fan with our cold drinks, and we watch messy, vaguely orange British twenty-two year olds try to fall in love.
Confession number two: I really don’t like most reality tv shows (Queer Eye and Say Yes to the Dress are exceptions). They don’t feel “real” to me. They’re overblown and overedited and over produced. The producers control everything so you can’t trust anything. The water is too turquoise and the teeth are too white.
And honestly, I can’t figure out why reality shows are so popular. Maybe it’s a Marie Kondo “I love mess” meme situation. But there’s something disturbing about watching producers manipulate situations to psychologically torment people into screaming at each other. Maybe if you have to complete a risk assessment to go on a show, you should think twice about that.
Confession number three: I can’t understand a word the Love Island contestants are saying at least half the time. This may contribute to my lack of enthusiasm.
Confession number four: I am probably going to keep watching it. I’m not fully vaccinated yet and there’s not that much to do.
