Classical dance is not an easy game. I think these days people tend to do a lot of things. They flip through many videos, they juggle through many messages, and go through many dance forms. What I am trying to say is this: there is a multiplicity of things that we encounter, or people love to engage with.

But I would like to tell people to bring down the number of things you are into. It is better to have focus and concentrate on limited things.

There is some cosmic power. We need the blessings of cosmic power. That’s the way we evoke the divine power within us and move ahead with life in a dedicated manner.  

Whenever I meet young students, I tell them that learning Bharatnatyam is a long journey. It takes time and effort and one has to be really lucky and blessed to embrace this dance form. And I tell my students that I learnt Bharatanatyam from my master in India. I went to India many times, I tried to grasp everything possible about the dance form India: learning from my venerable guru, learning from the authentic texts, imbibing the cultural ethos that give an added advantage in understanding Bharatanatyam. In short, I preach what I have learnt from India. I tell this to all my students. 

I also tell students to take one day at a time. Slowly, step by step we learn things. Of course, it gives you aches. Students do complain of knee pain, muscle pull etc. That’s understandable. These things are taken care of through our dedication and constant practice.
