One of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s biggest characters, Thor has been iconic of the cinematic universe. However, lately the MCU has begun degrading and Thor has been one of its victims as we saw in “Thor: Love and Thunder”, where Thor was turned into an all around idiot with the IQ of a 5 year old in order to be funny.
This is in sharp contrast to his image as a warrior and the God of Thunder from Norse mythology in Avengers: Infinity War or a man haunted and guilt stricken by his own failures in Avengers: Endgame where he has become physically fat and weaker. Now a poster boy for the MCU with simply too many comedic sides to him, Hemsworth seems to be aware that the character has been becoming stale and drier by the day, and thus it needs to be reinvented to make it interesting once again.
Speaking to Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad podcast, Hemsworth spoke directly of the need to reinvent the character. “You look at Thor 1 and 2, they were quite similar. Ragnarok and Love and Thunder are similar. I think it’s about reinventing it,” Hemsworth said. “I’ve had such a unique opportunity with Infinity War and Endgame to do very drastic things with the character. I enjoy that, I like keeping people on their toes. It keeps me on my toes. It keeps me invested.”
The actor has also earlier said that his next appearance in the MCU may potentially prove to be his final appearance Thor."I feel like we'd probably have to close the book if I ever did it again, you know what I mean?" Hemsworth said. "I feel like it probably warrants that. I feel like it'd probably be the finale, but that's not based on anything anyone's told me or any sort of plans. You have this birth of a hero, the journey of a hero, then the death of a hero, and I don't know — am I at that stage? Who knows?"
