Bojan, the original 'New Messi' set to retire
As is human nature to always look for the next best thing, the search for a new Messi in football has been done multiple times. But no candidate was perhaps as credible as the original 'New Messi' - Bojan Krkic. Today at the Spotify Camp Nou, he is ready to say goodbye to the game that has treated him so cruelly.
Bojan was the one of the most talked about wonderkids in football. Coming through Barca's academy, playing with a similar style to Messi and phenomenally talented, it's fair to say that the hype wasn't unwarranted. He broke into the team as well, aged 17. He broke a number of Messi's youth records as well. Keep in mind this was Pep Guardiola's Barcelona, the greatest club side of all and Bojan was getting regular minutes in it as a teenager.
He amassed over a 100 appearances for the club. But soon injuries hit and kept hitting. Form as a result took a hit too, and soon He was to become a footballing vagabond. Roma, Milan, Stoke, Ajax, Mainz, Alaves, Montreal Impact and Vissel Kobe are the other clubs he played for.
It is perhaps a bit ironic however that today as the original 'next Messi' retires, Messi is still at the top of his game.
