India had never lost to Pakistan in a World Cup match and Pakistan had never won a T20 game by 10 wickets yet Pakistan played like a side that had done this before. They played like a side completely possessed with nothing to lose. Whereas for India no one would have seen this coming, India looked in cruise control in their two warm-up games and all evidence seemed to suggest that this would be a win for India to say the least. But, that’s the thing about sport nothing can ever be assumed which is why we love this game so much.
India looked jittery from the moment the first ball was bowled, it was all downhill from the moment Rohit Sharma got out to a LBW by Shaheen Afridi. Skipper Virat Kohli’s knock of 57 was the one bright light in the innings along with Pant’s cameo. Barring those two, the Indian batters never got going. It was a whole different story for the Pakistani side with bowler Afridi giving the Pakistani’s the best start they could have asked for, by picking up a wicket in the 1st over. He soon sent KL Rahul packing in his second over, he also took the much-prized scalp of Indian skipper Kohli and was rightly adjudged the Man of the Match for his performance, in a game both the nations of India and Pakistan are very unlikely to forget anytime soon, both for completely different reasons.
The lethal Pakistani bowling attack was backed-up by their batsmen with captain Babar Azam leading the charge alongside wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan. They took the game to India from the start of the second innings scoring 10 off of the first over, there was no looking back from then on as Pakistan went on to seal an emphatic victory against an Indian side that had no answers.
The “Mauka-Mauka” ad will finally stop haunting Pakistani lives, at least for now. The Indian camp will be left scratching their heads in search for answers and they have to find them fast if they expect to get anything out of the game against New Zealand
