Consequences of conflict in Afghanistan continues.....
Most political institutions either ceased to exist or exercised limited functions under the control of armed groups. A functioning police, army, civil services, judiciary, legislature existed no more. Politics remained highly personalized tending to revolve around powerful men and their patronage
networks.
The consequences of the high-intensity period
of conflict thus were multiple. A state of perpetual conflict in the country has led to the destruction of the basic infrastructure vital to the running of a statesystem. Loss of population and displacement has caused massive sociocultural changes resulting in the breakdown of social institutions accompanied by political chaos and instability, economic deceleration and regress.
All of these have therefore led to high level of insecurity and the formation of a regional conflict complex involving several regional players. Hence, every action in a conflict situation has a chain reaction and spillovers leading to a vicious circle of uncertainty and chaos.
