Chapter 1 introduction Continues...
Following Ambedkar thus, the identity of an Indian is constituted by thus adherence to norms of Hindus civilization, acceptance of Sanskrit as the ultimate link language, individualism in the pursuit of spiritual happiness, being committed to the equality of souls and the law of karma.
The ideological framework to achieve such a national renaissance, the following parameters are essential.
(a) The identity of India is manifested in the concept of Hindustan which means an ancient nation civilization of Hindus and those of other religions who proudly acknowledge that their ancestors are Hindus. Hence “Hindutva” or Hinduness is the overriding and core concept of Indian identity.
(b) A social ethos based on the concepts of trusteeship of wealth, philanthropy and voluntary group action is encouraged by religious sanction for the better distribution of income and for minimizing economic contradictions and deprivation.
(c) The key goal of the state is to empower the individual through a modern education that blends the essential concepts of spiritual commitment with material pursuits to enable the individual to be self-reliant and yet have strong character.
(d) The individual is persuaded by the state by incentives and not by coercion. The state will hence make no promise to the people without specifying the sacrifices to be made.
(e) The citizen must have a mindset to bond collectively with others in the nation. At present, generally the Indian has loyalty to the family but is apathetic to the community where he lives. The Indians does not easily acknowledge the accomplishment of others. He respects intellectual endeavor but not dignity of labour, and is more concerned with form than content in personal and professional discourse.
A society based on dharma is, therefore, vitally needed at this moment in our history, because there is a dimension to the currentnationalcrisis–namely, themoraldecayandthedecline of character in our society which, if not stemmed, will slowly poison to death our nation.
