National Security Doctrine for Global Reach continues...
Unfortunately, the memory of the ghastly anti-Indian crime of Rajiv Gandhi’s murder is getting clouded partly because of the mysteriously softening attitude of his widow and political legatee, Ms. Sonia Gandhi. Ms. Gandhi had earlier shocked the nation by asking for clemency for those LTTE-DK conspirators who had been sentenced to hang by the trial court in 1997, which was confirmed by the Supreme Court in 1999. Thereafter, she
authorized her party to participate programmes chaired by the LTTE stooge outfit, the Dravida Kazhagam (DK). The DK’s leader Veeramani has been indicted by the Jain Commission in its Final Report (Part III, Volume IV, Chapter VII, pages 161-73), for abetting the LTTE in Rajiv Gandhi’s murder. Ms Gandhi has also acquiesced at the least in the payment of Rs. 35 crores in ransom, by the Congress Government in Karnataka, to propitiate Prabhakaran enough to make him direct Veerappan to release Raj Kumar. And in 2004, Ms. Gandhi authorized an electoral alliance with the DMK, PMK and MDMK. That is the widow of the assassinated Rajiv Gandhi shook hands with those parties that praise the assassins (LTTE) of her husband! How can we fight terrorism if there is such abject disregard for a fallen former Prime Minister?
To effectively combat terrorism and internal security threats, we have to forge ties with China. Hostility with that country ties up our defence forces in the north, and does not permit us to shift the focus of our attention southward toward the Ocean, which in the recent centuries has been most vulnerable for our nation.
Therefore, improving relations with China should receive our best attention and effort. For this we shall have to come to a settlement on the Sino-Indian border that conforms more to our defence needs and relies less on archaic international agreements, through mutual concessions and accommodation. Such flexibility is practical in the Sino-Indian dispute. We should face the fact that although China has no valid claim whatsoever on the border, our claims are based on the bogus documents created by the British rulers.
